To: All Members of the Dept of NC, ROA
Honorable State Members who follow our website: www.ncroa.org .
I’ve had the honor of being your Treasurer for years but must address future issues. I was based in eight different countries and was reactivated from retirement fifteen months prior to 9/11. We deployed our first soldiers overseas within five days of 9/11 and became the longest deployed active duty unit at 26 months. From 9/11 thru 2012, I was > three years in the Mid-East and Afghanistan, doing special duty. So that’s me; now you’re the focus.
We’ve adequate funds to last another decade but that’s because of prudent management of investments rather than donations. We’ve more assets than years ago, despite many bills.
Your money goes to: management of our website, Zoom expenses, conferences to WASH DC to lobby Congress for Reserve and National Defense Issues, medal sets presented at College ROTC annual award ceremonies, participation with the NC Veterans Council, recruiting efforts, postage, our State Conference in mid-summer, Wreaths Across America, and a Christmas Party for unity in early December, paid mainly by participants. The annual Christmas Luncheon should be in Sanford for 2026.
However, we lack enough money for a state-wide outreach via scholarships to high chool seniors headed to ROTC at a colleges/universities. We aim to distribute a minimum of five annual scholarships of $600 each across the State, beginning in 2027. This would be a great outreach program and to start a cadre of loyal future ROA members. I won’t ask like T2T for $19 monthly or DAV for $11 monthly; that gets out-of-hand. I do ask that every single member of the Dept of NC go to the donate button on the website once annually, and give $10.95, the equivalent of 3 cents a day. Amazingly, if everybody does that, we’ll have money for scholarships, and you’ll know your money breeds success.
Regardless of the amount of your donation (but at least $10.95), $10.95 less PayPal’s max 3.99% for non-profits, will be budgeted for the Scholarship Fund. On 1 Feb 2027, I’ll report the past year’s donations. If every member gives $10.95, that action equates to $7,000 for scholarships with a tremendous influence on the NC populace who’ll remember. If we get so much $$ that we’re overwhelmed, OK ,we’ll be gracious to our South Carolina neighbors, same criteria.
